JIL SANDER Headquarters

Hamburg, Germany

Architect: Gabellini Associates

Lighting Designer:
Johnson Schwinghammer

Within the impressive scale of this stately mansion, the Architects, Gabellini Associates have created an atmosphere worthy of its owner, contemporary designer, Jil Sander.

Respecting the rich architectural detailing of the original structure, an open, airy and functional plan was devised to enhance its use as a stimulating work environment.

In devising a lighting scheme the delicate colors and textures of the interior and the abundance of natural light were balanced with the need to provide overall and specific lighting solutions.

Working with lighting designers Johnson Schwinghammer, Rambusch created a series of custom fixtures to meet the special needs of the building's office spaces, showrooms and boutique areas. Including: custom uplites with a double indirect optic system using both HID and Tungsten Halogen sources in custom housings; special modified quartz downlites; and custom quartz wall washers in two reflector configurations that have become the standard lighting fixtures for all of their many boutiques, world-wide. The resulting lighting combination provides an appropriate, flexible and enhancing system for this high-profile renovated mansion.

Since 1898. A century of designing, engineering and meticulously manufacturing lighting fixtures and systems to properly illuminate large architectural and often historic spaces.

A unique history of maintaining a technological "cutting edge" in lighting. Continuously devising and updating a wide variety of lighting distributions...to accommodate the differing demands of architectural spaces. Allowing flexibility in the way designers and engineers approach the task of providing powerful, efficient and unobtrusive light to any space. It is a prime consideration engineered into all Rambusch Lighting fixtures. It is an expertise developed, and one which is continuously evolving, to illuminate the varied treatments being created by designers (as well as our own Decorative Arts Studios)
