CHARLOTTE
AIRPORT TERMINAL
CHARLOTTE,
NC
Objectives: To create a lighting
system that provides both sufficient illumination for the passengers
to both move from gate to gate as well as be able to read if
awaiting an arrival or departure. In addition the system had
to blend into the architecture or, if possible, accentuate it.
Execution: In choosing the Rambusch
PAL-XL-CAST family of architectural uplites, it was possible
to accomplish both the engineering performance needed for visual
tasks as well as adding some decorative elements to the interior.
The main lighting was provided from recessed H.I.D. downlights.
The project had two different photometric distributions, even
though the fixture housing from below looked the same, allowing
the architect to create different light patterns in the terminal
area.
Results: The system of downlights,
for main task lighting, and the decorative and functional architectural
uplites, provide the desired illumination in a fashion that accentuates
the architectural plan and space, rather than detracting from
it.
